How We Treat Depression
Our inpatient depression treatment center uses the combination of therapeutic techniques and medication monitoring. Each patient will have a dedicated treatment plan that is custom to their specific history, causes, and consequences of depression. Psychotherapy is often a successful approach to treating depression which is also integrated into the program. We also feel that the family should be involved in the process, so we’re constantly in touch with family members sharing the progression of each patient.
A holistic approach is also taken into account for those who struggle with any mood disorder. By participating in activities and nutritional counseling, patients will feel better about themselves. Physical activities will help reduce depression symptoms while nutrition will help stimulate their mood with the nutrients each body needs.
With the combination of medication, therapy, holistic treatment, and family support, we’re able to help struggling depression patients change their behaviors and emotions.
Depression and Addiction
Substance abuse is a common factor that can lead to depression to help suppress depressive symptoms. In fact, about 20% of Americans who are struggling with a mood disorder like depression or anxiety, also struggle with substance abuse.
The Connection Between Depression and Addiction
Those who struggle with depression will often use different substances to cover up the pain they are experiencing. What they may not realize is, alcohol and many drugs are depressants. Using drugs or alcohol to self-medicate often makes the depression symptoms much worse.
Another connection between the two is that long-term addicts who use drugs or alcohol can end up developing mental health issues like depression. Addicts begin experiencing depression symptoms which can lead them to harm themselves.
